About

My name is Domini Thorpe - but you can call me Dom

Welcome to You Filthy Animal!

They say never to work with children or animals, so I chose both!

I've been an animal lover all my life and been lucky enough to have dogs of all shapes an sizes.  From Stanley the Jack Russell to Shogun the Akita, dogs have always been an integral part of my life.e

I've recently retrained to become a Dog Groomer after many years running a historical workshop company for Primary Schools!  That's me top right, dressed up like a Viking.

I'm also a qualified Horse Riding instructor so am used to animals trying to kill me.

I take commissions for pet portraits in coloured pencil (see cat above). If you're interested, give me a shout!

I have a serious addiction to Floofy dogs and German Shepherd puppy ears, before they have decided which direction they're going to grow.

I am currently owned by two dogs and four cats, and live with my partner in Redgrave, Suffolk.

Meet some of our friends!

Rough collie before and after a groom

Amber's mum was doing her best to keep up with her dense coat at home, but just couldn't quite get to the bottom of all that floof.  She wasn't able to move properly because she had matted hair pulling on her skin, which was also making her itchy and uncomfortable.

We bathed her and blew out all that matted undercoat with our high velocity dryer, and brushed (and brushed...and brushed...) her through. Now she's moving freely, looking like the star that she is, and her mum is bringing her back for regular grooms!

Cocker Spaniel in a bath at the groomers

Stanley is a super fluffy, stunningly gorgeous cocker spaniel who was very overdue a groom for several reasons.  His legs looked like tree trunks and he had lots of seeds hiding in his feet from his countryside walks.  After a good bath and a shave down, he's a lot cooler and his feet are now clean and tidy!

Spaniels, and spaniel mixes like Cockerpoos, commonly suffer with seeds getting trapped in their fur.  These can then embed under their skin causing sore patches and abscesses, and can even travel into their blood stream! His mum absolutely made the right decision to get him shaved for the summer.

Fuzzbutt is a tiny Yorkshire terrier with a big personality and silky tresses which were getting out of control.  Yorkies have fur which continues to grow and she was tripping over her own feet, so it was definitely time for a haircut!

Fuzz's mum wanted a short body, a cute round face and to leave her legs long so she had "flares".

We think this stylish summer makeover shows her off like the princess she thinks she is!

Tilly is a very sweet and slightly nervous Cockerpoo.  She had not been to a groomer for a long time due to picking up fleas, which can happen to even the most conscientious owner!

With a lot of matting, her mum knew she would need a complete shave, so we took her quite short. This will help keep her mat-free and looking cool until we see her again in around 8 weeks!
